Anne Barley-Givler

Building community through music, Arab-American cellist Annie Barley Givler is the Program Manager of PMAY (Philadelphia Music Alliance for Youth), a program designed to support students of color in their pursuit of careers as professional musicians. A skilled music educator, Annie is in demand as pre-k to 12 culturally responsive music curriculum developer with a focus on equity and inclusion in music education. She is in high demand as a Suzuki cello teacher and clinician, frequently teaching and leading workshops all over the world. As a performer, Annie is an incredibly versatile cellist and has played in a multitude of ensembles - from professional symphony orchestras to pit orchestras on Broadway to Kanye West’s back-up band. She holds degrees in cello performance from Eastman School of Music and the University of South Florida. Annie worked as a classroom teacher for the past fifteen years at Greene Street Friends School and KIPP schools in New Jersey, New York and Philadelphia, building programs from infancy to maturity. Currently the Vice-President of Strings with the Greater Philadelphia Suzuki Association, Annie maintains a private cello studio in Bryn Mawr.
