Two sets of links that stay consistent across an entire section of the site.

Understanding Social Links & Quick Links

Example image of "Quick Links" and "Social Links" (connect with us) sections of the site.

Social Links and Quick Links are set once on a top-level piece of content and then appear automatically on every page within that section. They give visitors a reliable way to reach a unit's most important links and its social media accounts, no matter which page they land on.

Both are edited on the Secondary Content tab. They are available on Sites, Academic Departments, Programs, and Profiles. You set them on that top-level item, and they carry through to every subpage beneath it. Individual subpages do not have their own Secondary Content tab. To change these links, edit the parent.

Where they appear

Both sets of links appear in the left sidebar of every page in the section, below the section's navigation menu.

  • Quick Links are listed as text links under a "Quick Links" heading.
  • Social Links appear as a row of social media icons under a "Connect with us" heading.

The "Quick Links" and "Connect with us" headings are applied automatically. They are not fields you can edit.

If you leave either set empty, it simply does not appear. A section with no Social Links will not show a "Connect with us" area at all, and the same is true for Quick Links.

Editing Social Links & Quick Links

To edit either set:

  1. Open the Site, Academic Department, Program, or Profile in edit mode.
  2. Click the Secondary Content tab above the editing area.
  3. Make your changes, then click Save .

Quick Links

Quick Links are a short list of important links surfaced consistently across the section. They work well for the things people reach for most often, such as an application form, an annual report, or a key resource page.

Each Quick Link has two fields:

  • URL (required) is where the link points. You can start typing the title of an existing piece of content to select it, or paste an external address such as https://example.com. For internal paths and advanced link options, see {LINK TO Working with Links}.
  • Link text (required) is the wording shown to visitors. Keep it short and clear, since these display in a compact sidebar list.

To add another link, click Add another item. To reorder links, use the drag handle on the left side of each item. The order you set is the order visitors see.

Social Links

Social Links connect the section to its social media accounts. Each network has its own field, and every entry must be a full external URL such as https://example.com:

Fill in only the networks the unit actually uses. Each one you complete adds its icon to the "Connect with us" area, and any you leave blank are hidden. If you fill in none of them, the "Connect with us" area does not appear.
