May 20–June 3, 2026 at the Ithaca College London Center, in London UK

About the Program

This two-week experiential learning course in London will fully immerse you in brass instrument performance and pedagogy through a British lens. In master classes with the world-class brass players and organizations who are creating and innovating within the London brass performance music scene, we will discover what makes British brass playing unique. Visits to London-based orchestras, performance venues, and educational programs will take place during the days and some evenings, as you observe rehearsals, engage in education workshops, and attend concerts and shows. You will also visit the north of England to learn about British brass band culture and observe the Whit Friday brass band contests – a tradition dating back over 150 years. The course culminates in your performance in the heart of London with your chamber group, at Regent Hall on Oxford Street.

Participants will work with brass players from London Orchestras on their solo and chamber repertoire in masterclasses held at the IC London Center. Additional chamber coaching and all fieldtrips led by Dr. Porter.

  • Cost: $3,800 per student (based on 15 participants). The program fee includes accommodations, and costs for excursions and local transportation. Airfare, Meals, passport, and visa expenses are not included. Flights from Syracuse to London for these dates are currently $1100-1200 (which would bring your total cost to approx. $4900). Accommodations are in apartments, so students have the option to buy groceries locally and self-cater to keep costs lower. For comparison, IC tuition is $1,892 per credit, so three credits on campus cost $5,676 - already more expensive than the full IC Brass in London program cost.
  • Fee coverage: Housing, workshops, concerts, excursions, tuition, pre- and post-program workshops, travel insurance, and 24/7 on-site support.
  • Student responsibility: Passport or visa requirements, flights, meals, and personal spending.
  • Duration: Two weeks
