The IC Women in Math Day is an opportunity for female high school students and their families to engage with interesting mathematical ideas and to learn more about careers that incorporate mathematics. The day will consist of a keynote address, a career panel of women who use mathematics in their work, a series of fun hands-on activities, and time to socialize with other students interested in mathematics.
There is no cost to participate and lunch will be provided. The program is designed for high school women ages 14 and up.
This event is sponsored by MAA Tensor Grant program for Women in Mathematics, the Ithaca College Math Department, and the Ithaca College Alumni Office.
Register using this form. You can register up until Friday, March 23!

Title: Learning Math = Thinking Mathematically
Abstract: We will talk about different ways to think about math problems and how to apply that way of thinking to other problems as well. In mathematics, we look for patterns and sometimes patterns tie together with seemingly unrelated
things. What is common to ancient multiplication and some mathmagic? Or crochet and non-Euclidean geometry? You guessed it - thinking mathematically!
11 - 12: Hands-on Math Activities
12 - 12:45: Lunch (provided)
12:45 - 1:25: Scavenger Hunt (with prizes!)
1:30 - 2:30: Industry Panel with
Kendra Meade (Associate Director of Breeding Sciences, Nature Source Improved Plants, LLC.)
Peggy McKernan (Sr. Research Analyst at the Office of Analytics & Institutional Research, Ithaca College)
Sharon Myers (Financial Advisor, Merrill Lynch)
