What Ithaca College Requires

The College requires all organizations/facility users who host camps on campus to be insured and carry general liability insurance, molestation, medical participant insurance, and worker's compensation; at times, additional insurance coverage may be required, dependent on the nature of the event.  The limits and specific insurance requirements will be contained in the contract with Ithaca College.

Sports Camps must provide evidence of coverage, via a Certificate of Insurance, to the department/office booking your camp and to the Office of Risk Management 30 days prior to the event. This requirement can be satisfied by providing your own Certificate of Insurance or by purchasing a policy through the URMIA Sports Camp Insurance Program.

Purchasing Insurance

Because of the inability of some third-party users to obtain insurance on their own, the College is enrolled in the University Risk Management and Insurance Association (URMIA) Sports Camp Insurance Program (SCIP).  SCIP is designed to provide the required insurance for users of College facilities through an online purchasing process. As such, coverage may not be available for all sport camp types, since policy exclusions do exist. Use of this program is not a guarantee for insurance.  Premium costs are paid by the third party (the party who needs to purchase the insurance).  Premium costs are based on the nature of the sports camp, the duration of the camp, overnight accommodations, the number of participants, and the level of risk.

SCIP provides low-cost, best-in-class, sports-specific insurance to camp programs for minors conducted at Ithaca College.

This sports camp insurance program is designed to cover your camp and the college for liability insurance. In addition, Excess Accident Medical coverage is available for participants.  Please refer to the policy for details regarding coverage limits.

The following sports are automatically approved in the URMIA Sports Camp Program:

Worker's Compensation insurance is not included in the SCIP program, which can be purchased separately through New York State. This coverage will need to be purchased separately. Ii would cover the coach, anyone the coach hires, as well as volunteers.

Providing Own Insurance

If you are providing your own insurance, you will need to provide documentation of a Certificate of Insurance evidencing insurance to cover the camp and use of College facilities. The Certificate of Insurance must evidence a minimum of $1 million in general liability, $5 million excess general liability insurance, $1 million molestation coverage, medical participant coverage, and workers' compensation.  Ithaca College must be listed as the certificate holder with additional insured status, except for worker's compensation coverage, and must include the dates of the camp and/or use of college facilities. The Certificate of Insurance should be sent 30 days prior to the event to:
