We understand that each person’s gender journey is unique. Our team is here to provide you with medical support, guidance, and affirming care—wherever you are on that journey.

We are committed to fostering a welcoming and respectful environment where your identity is honored and your comfort is our priority.

What is Gender Affirming Care?

Gender-affirming care (GAC) refers to treatments and resources that support individuals whose gender identity does not align with their sex assigned at birth. Our care model follows best practices set forth by the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) and is trauma-informed, patient-centered, and affirming.

We offer:

  • Medical evaluation and management for gender-affirming hormone therapy
  • Prescriptions for gender-affirming hormones and syringes
  • Referrals to gender-affirming surgeons and specialists
  • Coordination with CAPS for mental health counseling
  • Linkages to binding and tucking supplies through Ithaca College’s LGBTQ+ Center

Our goal is to work with you to create a care plan that aligns with your goals and values.

Our Commitment to Inclusive Care

All Cayuga Health providers and staff are trained to care for gender-expansive students and use your chosen name and pronouns , as documented in the Cayuga Health portal or shared during your visit. Every appointment is an opportunity to receive respectful, informed, and collaborative care.

Partners Beyond Medical Care

Transition can involve emotional and social challenges. In addition to the medical care offered through Student Health Services, we work with other campus partners to help you feel supported:

  • CAPS offers individual therapy, support groups, and case management
  • ICare provides guidance and crisis response
  • The LGBTQ+ Center offers education, community, and access to supplies
  • Health Insurance Navigators can answer your questions about billing and confidentiality
How to Start Gender Affirming Care at IC

To begin receiving GAC services:

  1. Call (607) 274-3177 or visit the Cayuga Health at Ithaca College to schedule a Gender Affirming Care appointment.
  2. Meet with one of our Gender Services providers to discuss your care plan and options.
  3. Continue care through scheduled follow-ups and ongoing support from your provider and campus resources.

Additional Considerations

Students interested in GAC should schedule a visit with a provider on our Gender Services team . During your first appointment, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Discuss your health goals, questions, and concerns
  • Receive education about hormone therapy and informed consent
  • Complete initial lab work if appropriate
  • Collaboratively develop your care plan
  • Identify other support resources or services to include in your care

Follow-up visits are typically scheduled at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months to monitor progress, review labs, and continue shared decision-making around your treatment.

Cayuga Health bills your insurance as the primary payer . Most insurance plans require a brief summary of your visit, called an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) , which may include diagnostic codes.

  • If you are on a parent/guardian’s plan , they may receive the EOB.
  • If you are enrolled in the Student Health Plan (SHP) , you are the policyholder and the only one who receives your EOB.

If you have concerns regarding confidentiality we encourage you to speak with our Health Insurance Navigator before your appointment.

Your health information is kept strictly confidential and separate from all other college records . It is only shared with your written permission or in rare circumstances required by law.
