Medicar Service: Transportation for Off-Campus Medical Care

Notice: Medi-Car Program to Conclude at End of Semester

To our students, staff, faculty, and families,

The Medi-Car program will be sunsetting, with its final day of service on December 15, 2026 .

What this means for you

  • Medi-Car will operate as normal through December 15, 2026.
  • After that date, the program will no longer be available.
  • If you currently rely on Medi-Car, we encourage you to begin planning for alternatives now so there is no gap in your care or transportation needs.

The Medicar is a free transportation service provided by Cayuga Health at Ithaca College to help students get to and from off-campus medical appointments within Tompkins County. This service is free of charge available to ensure students can access necessary healthcare even if they do not have a car or reliable transportation.

Service Availability

Medicar is only offered during the traditional academic calendar. It is not offered during break periods: Spring Break, Thanksgiving and Winter Break.

Hours of Operation

Monday-Saturday during limited daytime hours

Examples of Eligible Destinations

Medicar is only to be used as a transportation method for healthcare-related matters. Examples of eligible destinations include:

  • Physical therapy appointments
  • Pharmacies to pick up prescriptions
  • Urgent care centers
  • Specialist or primary care offices
  • Off-campus counseling or mental health appointments

Medicar cannot be used for non-healthcare related personal errands such as grocery and/or retail shopping.
