Standalone CTA Button

A single, prominent call-to-action button.

Understanding the Standalone CTA Button component

The Standalone CTA Button places a single, prominent button on a page that links somewhere else. It's designed to focus attention on one specific action you want a visitor to take, without any surrounding heading, body text, or imagery competing for it.

When to use the Standalone CTA Button

Reach for this component when you want a clear next step to sit on its own between other content sections. Common use cases include:

  • Linking to an application or program inquiry form, like "Apply Now" or "Request Info"
  • Pointing readers to a related news feed, event listing, or calendar
  • Directing visitors from a department page to a key program page
  • Sending readers to a downloadable resource or PDF
  • Wrapping up a long page with one clear next step

Avoid using this component when your link needs context that doesn't fit on the button itself. If you need a heading, body text, and a button together, the Callout is usually a better fit. If you want a button paired with an image, the Split Media Tile or Promo Tile combines media, text, and a button in one component. If you have multiple related calls to action that belong together at the top of a page, Hero: Overlay supports up to four CTAs in a single banner. And if your link is just one of several inline references in a paragraph, a standard hyperlink inside a Text component is more appropriate.

Adding and modifying the Standalone CTA Button

Button Alignment (required)

The Button Alignment dropdown controls where the button sits horizontally within the content area. There are two options:

  • Center Aligned: places the button in the center of the column. This works well as a standalone moment between sections.
  • Left Aligned: places the button at the left edge of the column. This feels more natural when the button follows left-aligned body content directly above it.

URL (required)

The URL field is the destination the button links to. Start typing the title of an Ithaca page (like "Admissions" or "Park School of Communications") and a list of matching pages will appear, letting you pick one without copying a URL. You can also paste in a full external URL like https://example.com, an internal path like /admissions, or enter <front> to link to the Ithaca College homepage.

Link text (required)

The Link text is the label that appears on the button itself. It is limited to 20 characters, so keep it short and action-oriented. Good examples include "Apply Now," "Learn More," "Register Today," "Visit Campus," or "Browse Programs." Avoid full sentences or descriptive phrases, since longer text will run up against the limit before you finish.
