IC Writing majors Oninye-Che Burge (’27) and Fran Leigus (’26) were this spring awarded full scholarships to attend the 2026 Colgate Writers Conference in Hamilton, NY (June 7 to 13, 2026), a weeklong event at Colgate University where emerging and established writers gather to hone their craft, connect with industry professionals, and join a vibrant literary community. The Department of Writing is incredibly grateful to Writing alumnus Bryce O’Connor (’12), whose Arro Fund sponsored these scholarships

Professors Eleanor Henderson and Jack Wang both taught workshops at the conference. Additional conference faculty were Molly McCully, Alexandra Kleeman, Peter Balakian, Kyle Bass, Jocelyn Nicole Johnson, Alex Gilvarry, and others including IC Writing alumni Lashanda Anakwah (’16), an Editor at Tiny Reparations Books, an imprint of Dutton/Penguin Random House, and Amanda R. Livingston (’17), Marketing Manager of Knopf/Penguin Random House.
