Fully engaging in department life

This award honors up to two exemplary first- or second-year students each year. The ideal recipient is an active and engaged member of the department who contributes positively to its intellectual, social, and community life. The recipient takes full advantage of the opportunities available within the department and serves as a model for their peers.

This involvement may include (but is not limited to): participating in departmental events and co-curricular activities; contributing to student organizations such as the Society of Physics Students or Astronomy Club; serving as a tutor or peer mentor; assisting with outreach, admissions events, or departmental programming; and fostering a welcoming, collaborative, and inclusive environment.

Xander MacKenzie '28, winner of the Early Career Citizenship Award

Xander MacKenzie '28 is a native of Homer, NY. He is a physics student interested in astronomy and the rules of the universe. He has been involved in multiple apartment activities, including: PhysCon '25, SPS activities, and tutoring. He is someone who is always trying to get more involved with the department and is always trying to know his fellow physics majors better.
