ICC Program Requirements and Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
Ithaca Seminar (ICSM): An interdisciplinary liberal arts course that supports the academic and social transition to Ithaca College.
- SLO 1: Identify and articulate assumptions that underlie an idea, argument, or creative work.
- SLO 2: Articulate what it means to be a part of a college-level learning community.
- SLO 3: Identify and use resources and services on campus and/or in our host community of Ithaca, NY to achieve academic, personal, and career goals.
Perspectives: The ways humans view and interact with the world around them (CA/HM/SC/SO).
Creative Arts (CA): Explore and analyze the methods and materials used in various kinds of art.
- SLO 1: Applies forms, techniques, or processes used in at least one area of the Creative Arts.
- SLO 2: Analyzes how language, texts, performances or images impact human emotions, thoughts, actions, or beliefs.
Humanities (HM): Understand the human experience by analyzing expressions of language, image, text, and culture.

Natural Sciences (SC): Examine through scientific methods how humans interact with the natural and physical world.

Sciences. - SLO 2: Analyzes the impact of a specific area of the Natural Sciences on self and/or
society.
Social Sciences (SO): Understand and analyze how social forces shape, predict, and determine human action.
- SLO 1: Applies basic scientific principles and methods in one area of the Social
Sciences. - SLO 2: Analyzes the impact of a specific area of the Social Sciences on self and/or
society.
Competencies: Foundational skills for responsible citizenship and professional success.

Academic Writing (AW): Provides the foundation for developing a recursive writing process. Assessment of the Student Learning Outcome for this Competency is organized by the Department of Writing.
Diversity (DV): Learn how diversity enriches society, explore why groups may hold different views on issues, and open your mind to views beyond your own.
- SLO 1: Analyzes how systems of power impact the construction of identity within a
social, economic, and/or historical context. - SLO 2: Articulates a shift in personal understanding of systemic power structures.
Quantitative Literacy (QL) : Develop the ability to investigate and interpret quantitative information.
- SLO 1: Analyzes and explains information presented in mathematical forms (e.g., equations, graphs, diagrams, tables, words).
- SLO 2: Converts relevant information into various mathematical forms (e.g. equations, graphs, diagrams, tables, words).
Writing Intensive (WI): Develop and articulate content knowledge and critical thinking through frequent practice of informal and formal writing.
- SLO 1: Applies a recursive writing process (focusing on context, purpose, content development, disciplinary conventions, sources, evidence, syntax and mechanics).
Capstone (CP): Each student’s opportunity to make connections across the entirety of their learning and synthesize their college experience.
- SLO 1: Demonstrates a developing sense of self as a learner, building on prior experiences to respond to new and challenging contexts.
- SLO 2: Synthesizes and transfers learning to new, complex situations within and beyond the college classroom experience.
- SLO 3: Summarizes skills and dispositions acquired for the development of lifelong learning, which includes curiosity, transfer, independence, initiative, and reflection.
