Does your minors program fall under NYS Regulation?

You will need to determine if your program must be permitted as a children's camp in New York State. Please Note: Even if you deem your program is not a “camp,” please be advised it may still fall under NYS regulation. There are resource links below to help determine if your camp must comply with NYS Regulation.

Allow sufficient time to determine if you minors program requires a camp permit.

The process to determine if your program falls under NYS Regulation can be lengthy, please contact the Tompkins County Health (TCHD) Department 6 months before your program start date to allow sufficient time for TCHD to review and offer guidance regarding your program.

If your program does fall within NYS Regulations you will be required to upload into your program registration form the TCHD camp permit.

Regulated vs Non-regulated Camps

Camps that are not required to obtain a permit pursuant to Subpart 72 of the NYS Sanitary Code, are required to post the following at the facility and on its website if applicable: "This camp is not regulated or inspected by the New York State Department of Health and is not required to obtain a Department of Health permit. This camp is not required to follow Department of Health regulations, including, checking the state sex offender registry prior to hiring staff; maintaining minimum staff-to-child ratios; hiring medical personnel; or reporting injuries or illnesses to the Department of Health."
