Does your minors program fall under NYS Regulation?

You need to determine if your program must be permitted as a children's camp in New York State. NOTE: Even if you deem your program is not a “camp,” please be advised it may still fall under NYS regulation. Please use the resource links below to determine if your camp must comply with NYS Regulation.
Important

The process to determine if your program falls under NYS Regulation can be lengthy, please make contact with the Tompkins County Health (TCHD) Department 6 months before your program start date to allow sufficient time for TCHD to review and offer guidance regarding your program.

You will be asked to upload documentation in your program registration form, either the camp permit OR documentation (from TCHD) confirming that your program does not fall within the NYS Regulation.

Regulated vs Non-regulated Camps

Camps that are not required to obtain a permit pursuant to Subpart 72 of the NYS Sanitary Code, are required to post the following at the facility and on its website if applicable: "This camp is not regulated or inspected by the New York State Department of Health and is not required to obtain a Department of Health permit. This camp is not required to follow Department of Health regulations, including, checking the state sex offender registry prior to hiring staff; maintaining minimum staff-to-child ratios; hiring medical personnel; or reporting injuries or illnesses to the Department of Health."
