SAS statement regarding COVID-19

Changes to Accommodation Plans can be made during remote instruction by speaking with an SAS specialist.

As the situation around the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) develops, Ithaca College and Student Accessibility Services (SAS) remain dedicated to ensuring reasonable accommodations are provided to students with disabilities.

Developing accommodation plans requires close consideration of the student’s learning environment, and of the barriers to accessibility within that environment. Many accommodation plans were developed for an in-person classroom environment and we recognize that remote instruction over Zoom and Sakai may present a fundamentally different learning environment.

Many design elements for online learning follow the principles of universal design. Some students may find the change to be more accessible and may need to rely on fewer accommodations. Other students may find that they require new accommodations, or new ways of thinking about previous accommodations. Your existing accommodation plan is still in place and we encourage discussing any concerns with your faculty. If you feel as if an accommodation is not being honored, please reach out to us immediately.

The Office of Student Accessibility Services remains open and available to help facilitate the accommodation process. While you are at home, you can schedule Zoom or telephone appointments to speak with SAS specialists.  Spring 2021 appointments can be made online.

We can be reached during business hours by telephone at 607-274-1005 or by email at sas@ithaca.edu.
