Requesting an Exam with SAS

On this page students can find information on how to request an exam with SAS. Other relevant information on this page includes SAS testing center hours, requirements for taking your exam at the testing center, and test scheduling deadlines for students. If you have additional questions, please contact tests@ithaca.edu.

Testing Center Hours

7:30 AM – 6:00 PM Monday – Thursday

7:30 AM – 5:00 PM on Fridays

Please schedule your exams to fall within these hours, calculate extended time to ensure your exam does not fall past closing time.

These hours will change for final exam week!

Due to the high volume of testing, SAS requires at least  five business days’ notice for exams.  The following chart will assist you in determining test scheduling deadlines.  Please note that this chart does not apply to final exams, which require more notice. Keep in mind that weekends and holidays are not business days.

If you have a test on: You must schedule by:
MondayMonday of the week before
TuesdayTuesday of the week before
WednesdayWednesday of the week before
ThursdayThursday of the week before
FridayFriday of the week before

Students must be registered with our office before they can request exams.  Exam requests must be submitted through the Alternative Testing Request Form.

  • Sign in with your IC username and password.
  • Select the Alternative Testing tab under Accommodations on the left-hand side of the screen.
  • Choose your class from the Select Course dropdown.
  • Click on Schedule an Exam.
  • Enter the exam details under Exam Request (type, date, time, services requested, and any additional notes for SAS).
  • Additional notes include any information SAS should know about your testing needs not included in the services requested section.
  • In some cases you may be asked to include a "Standard Length of Exam (in minutes)." If you see this box please enter the length of the class time and your extended time will be added automatically. You will only need to include this if SAS has not yet received the exam instructions from your professor.
  • Click on Add Exam Request,

You will receive an email confirming your request was submitted but your professor still needs to approve the exam request.  Once approved you will receive an email from SAS the day before your exam, indicating where your test will take place.

Alternate time requests may be submitted for academic or accommodation-related needs. An example would be back-to-back classes where you may need to schedule a test earlier or later in order to avoid missing another class. Alternate time accommodations may not be used for travel plans, or as a means of leaving campus early.

Students must communicate when this accommodation is needed so that faculty, the student, and SAS can work together on an alternate time that does not detract from the course objective and fits scheduling needs. Tests must be made up within a reasonable timeframe or the alternate time accommodation may be nullified.

  • Requests that fall outside of standard testing accommodations should be emailed to SAS testing staff at tests@ithaca.edu five business days before your exam date.
  • Requests must relate specifically to your accommodation needs.  These may include:
    • Non-fluorescent lighting in test room
    • Access to tables instead of tablet arm chairs
