How can I find out about jobs and internships?

Try looking at the databases below for everything from volunteer work to faculty positions at research institutions. If you want to look at a broad range of possible careers in the field of biology, the website of the Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology has published an index page entitled Careers in Biology.

There are many job boards that list biology jobs, such as:

  • managed for Ithaca College by AfterCollege
  • After College is the largest career network specializing in recruitment at the college level
  • employers such as Agilent, Covance and Schlumberger now have opportunities available for science majors
  • information about these and other opportunities are available on the Job Resource Center

Summer 2021 Research at The Cornell Institute of Host-Microbe Interactions and Disease (CIHMID) is accepting applications for the NSF-funded Microbial Friends & Foes (MFF) Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Summer Program.  Students will learn about broad diversity of microbe-eukaryote interactions. There is a a stipend of $6000, travel subsidy, meal allowance and on-campus housing. 

Applications are due February 15, 2021.

Summer 2021 Research at Cornell NeuroNex (REU) program in neuroscience
Virtually from June 6 - August 13. Awards include $5,600 stipend and if an in-person program is a possibility, on-campus housing and a travel allowance will be included.

Summer 2021 Intern: Plant Genomics @ MSU REU program. Program dates are May 24 – July 30, 2021. Participants will perform a mentored research project under the guidance of an MSU faculty member and also participate in a range of professional development and networking opportunities. No prior research experience is required.

Oceans Research Institute in Mossel Bay, South Africa has research internships available.  During their month long experiential field research program, students gain hands-on practical training in conducting a wide range of research projects, from population to movement ecology projects on large marine megafauna (including white sharks and cetaceans), from intertidal community biodiversity assessments to fishery related research
